Our Scout Troop has several outings a year! We do everything from traditional weekend camping, to hiking and canoeing trips, beach campouts, snow skiing trips, trips to Washington DC, and to the USS Yorktown in Charleston, SC.
Scouts are about being a team and having fun! Troop 208 is a youth led organization and we practice the Patrol method.
Doing service projects together is one way that Scouts keep their promise “to help other people.” While a Scout should do his best to help other people every day, a group service project is a bigger way to help people. While you’re giving service, you’re learning to work together with others to do something that’s good for your community.
The Scout program includes outdoor stewardship, care for the environment, and Leave No Trace as part of their programs. Youth are encouraged to take leadership positions in encouraging proper outdoor ethics using the principles of Leave No Trace. We learn to take responsibility for our own impacts. We can provide leadership to those around us to reduce their impacts by making good choices. Together, we can preserve and conserve our rich environmental heritage.
Our first camping trip of the fall is in September and we camp on the beach with Pack 208 at Camp Campbell on Kerr Lake. Our Scouts enjoy swimming, canoeing, and cooking with their patrols.
Our Troop travels to the mountains to hit the powder! Skiing and snowboarding. Our recent trip was to Winterplace Ski Resort in West Virginia.
One of our favorite and productive outings is when our Rank Advancement Outing. Our older Scouts teach our younger Scouts basic outdoor skills.
Scouts should have fun! We have several outings a year to just have fun! We visit Wet and Wild Waterpark in Greensboro, Indoor Rock Climbing, the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, Fishing at local lakes, and Parades!
Troop 208 Attends summer camp during the first week in July every year. We usually rotate through several camps. In recent years we camped at Camp Ottari in Virginia, Camp Daniel Boone in the NC mountains, Camp Rainey Mountain in Georgia, Camp Barnhardt on Badin Lake, and Camp Raven Knob in Mt. Airy. For 2025, the Scouts have chosen to attend camp at Camp Bowers in eastern NC.
Summer camp gives Scouts a opportunity to earn merit badges, have fun, learn new skills, make new friends, and meet new Scouts in different Councils and different States.
We meet on Monday night at 7:00 pm, so feel free to visit!
